We have managed to reduce specific energy consumption significantly over the past ten years. Benefiting the environment by reducing energy consumption has been and still is an important objective for all the sites - for reasons of climate and resource protection and for sound economic reasons.

Energy managers, who are employed at all of our production sites, engage in projects for saving energy and promoting the efficient use of energy. Energy-efficient lighting systems are obviously part of this scheme at OSRAM. The thermal recovery systems, and in particular the systems for making use of the waste heat from glass production, make a significant contribution here.

Specific energy consumption expressed as a percentage

In the year under review the construction of a heat recovery system led to a considerable improvement. At the Molsheim site the heat recovered from the hot waste air from the machinery is sufficient to heat the entire factory in winter. There is no need for any additional energy for heating purposes.
