Improving the lighting efficiency at our US-Headquarters in Danvers, Massachusetts

Objective

By taking advantage of recent lamp/ballast performance improvements, modern luminaire design and innovative controls technology, we sought to reduce energy use as well as the associated CO2 emissions in our renovated OSRAM SYLVANIA headquarters offices in Danvers, Massachusetts.

Solution

To meet this objective, we installed a combination of direct and indirect state-of-the-art fluorescent luminaires. The recessed direct "RT5" luminaires, developed in cooperation with Lithonia Lighting, incorporate T5 lamps and electronic dual-level ballasts that are controlled throughout the facility by occupancy sensors. In 14,000m2 (150,000 sq ft) of space, we reduced energy consumption by over 30%, while producing lighting levels that exceed building code standards by at least 35%. In total, we save over 400,000 kWh of electric energy each year. This solution is not only beneficial for the environment, it also puts a smile on the face of our chief financial officer.
